today i stood in line...
dr. king was by my side
he said "i have a dream"
i said,
you made it my reality
today i stood in line
my grandma was by my side
she said "knew this wouldn't happen in my lifetime"
i said,
but you made it happen in mine
today i stood in line
my father was by my side
he said "if i could have just lived a few more years"
i said, nothing
my eyes filled with tears
today i stood in line
with all those who gave their human lives
so that i could stand in line
so that i could stand in line
so that the vote that would count
would also include mine
and as i walked to cast my ballot
the others in the room may not have noticed
but that place was ever so crowded
because today, when i stood in line
i invited every single spiritual being
who helped this day arrive
and i said to them
come cast this vote with me
as a thank you for all you've done
for humanity
i hope we've made you proud
today i stood in line
and i stood in slaves feet
i stood in peacemakers bodies
i stood in the revolution of a man-kind
i stood in love with the divine
today it didn't matter how long i had to wait
because i stood with rosa parks
i stood there all lit up
in the power of light
that they sought
yes, i am happy to be alive
thanking all of those one more time
who fought, killed & died
to give me the right
to stand in line.
